I have noticed that each of you use in-the-moment teaching. In other words, you jump on learning opportunities as they arise. For example, during a comprehension lesson you recognize the opportunity to reinforce a spelling lesson previously taught on long e words. Clearly, you are each able to think well on your feet. How have you become this way? What do you possess that less effective teachers may not? What role do you think this in-the-moment teaching plays in your effectiveness as a literacy teacher?

Posting for BA (second grade):
Being able to think on your feet is a vital skill in our fast paced society. We must use every moment, no matter how big or small, to influence our children in a positive way. One way may be to smile at them and thank them for having the courage and determination to ask for help when they don't understand. On the other hand we can use a newsworthy event to discuss what is a good choice or a bad choice in that particular situation.
